Bengaluru: A software to keep transformers going
The data of the transformer will be maintained until that particular transformer is scrapped, Bescom official said.
Bengaluru: With Bescom officials struggling to keep the transformers running, as they are not able to withstand even minor showers, now they are now planning to introduce a software that will keep a track on their life cycle. A Bescom official said, “The senior officers are discussing about introducing the software known as Distribution Transformer Lifecycle Management (DTLM) on pilot basis. This software will help keep track of the transformers in the city. Each transformer will have a code and their life cycle will be tracked. The data of the transformer will be maintained until that particular transformer is scrapped.”
“Through this software, the transformers maintenance, frequent service, details of the faults occurring in transformers and many more can be tracked. This will help us to keep a check on the transformers and timely maintenance will help in avoiding faults. Most of the time, the transformers develop a snag when it rains and the reasons causing snags can also be studied,” the official added.
This software will help us know the working condition of each transformer and their life cycle and this will help in avoiding transformer failures and reduce power outages, the official said.
Regarding the implementation of the software, the official said, “The senior officers will take a call and a private agency is likely to be roped in to implement the software. The date of implementation will be decided by senior officials. It will help in maintaining the transformers for several years.”
But the public are fuming that the Bescom about the erratic power supply.
Sneha Ram, a resident of Indiranagar said, “Every day there is power outage which lasts for more than two hours and the reason is not known. The situation seems bleak and we never know what is in store for during the monsoon season. The Bescom should take up precautionary measures to ensure that there would not be erratic power supply.”
