Sewage spills on to Kondapur road as drainage work stalls
Residents allege that work on the drain stopped almost midway.
Hyderabad: Incomplete storm water drain, open trench and overflowing drainage water are regular nightmares for commuters travelling from Hafeezpet to Kondapur. Construction works of box drain at Kondapur RTA office have come to a grinding halt. As a result, sewerage water has been flowing onto the extensively used main road for almost a month. The foundation stone for the construction of a box drain, from RTA office to Pochamma temple at Bikshapathi Nagar of Serilingampally constituency, was laid in December 2016.
Residents allege that work on the drain stopped almost midway. Furthermore, the drainage pipeline has been leaking continuously and nobody has attended to it, despite repeated complaints. Mr. Vinay Vangala, social activist said, “Sewerage water has been flowing onto the road for the past month, and nobody is paying any heed to our request. While the water pipeline has been fixed, the drainage pipeline continues to overflow, causing water to stagnate in this prime location.”
Several techies from Miyapur use this road to reach their workplace every day and on weekdays, traffic snarls are common during rush hours. The overflow of sewage onto the main road only worsens the situation.
"We are taking up the box works immediately. While the works related to the drain have been completed inside the lane, there is a bit left on the main road. An agency has been entrusted with the task and this week the work will commence," said an official of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. It may be mentioned here that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board had undertaken pipeline works in December, when the sewerage pipe broke. "The Water works Department was doing junction works which damaged the existing sewer system. We will co-ordinate with them and get this issue fixed," said the official.
