Anantapur: Reacting to a report ‘Two children die due to lack of sufficient food’ filed in the columns of this newspaper on Tuesday, district collector Veerapandiyan on Wednesday swung into action and did the needful for the four children and their parents who were suffering due to lack of sufficient food at Hamali Colony of Kummaravaripalli grampanchyat in Kadiri mandal in Anantapur district.
The one-year-old baby was immediately shifted to the children ward in the general hospital in Anantapur and the remaining two children were shifted to a rescue home.

Two children had already died due to lack of food which was stated in the report published in the newspaper on Tuesday. The two children were found eating soil to fill their hungry stomachs.
The parents of these children, V. Mahesh and his wife V. Neelaveni, migrated to Kummaravaripalli from Karnataka 10 years ago, but could not avail benefits of any government scheme like a ration card, pucca house and a job card.
A team of district officials and an officials from the revenue division reached the village on Wednesday.
Kadiri RDO Ajay Kumar handed over `5,000 as immediate financial assistance to the family and ordered his department officials posted in Kadiri rural mandal to clear files and sanction a ration card and pucca house to the family.
The local FP shop dealer was directed to supply ration to the family till they get ration card sanctioned.
The housing corporation will sanction a house and the MRO will give the house site patta, the RDO said.
The health department officials examined the one-year-old girl and found that it was lacking proper growth due to non-availability of nutritious food. She was sent to Anantapur general hospital for treatment. Neelaveni was found to be addicted to liquor and she was told to be admitted to a de-addiction centre.
