Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka wants IPC 420 on defected MLAs
Bhatti said that the issue of party defections was in the purview of the Supreme Court purview and should be brought under Lokpal limits.
Khammam: The fresh demand of the Congress on the defection of MLAs is to file cases against them under the Indian Penal Code section 420. The section deals with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
Whoever cheats and thereby dishonestly induces the person deceived to deliver any property to any person, or to make, alter or destroy the whole or any part of a valuable security, or anything which is signed or sealed, and which is capable of being converted into a valuable security, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
Congress Legislature party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said, “The MLAs who announced that they would join the ruling party can be punished under IPC 420 as they cheated people by defecting from the elected party to another. They were dishonest and deceived their voters who voted him or her on the promise of committing to one party.”
People are voicing these opinions during the Prajaswamya Parirakshana Yatra (Save Democracy program), he said.
He said that the issue of party defections was in the purview of the Supreme Court purview and should be brought under Lokpal limits.
“The issue of defections is a matter of concern to all people. Constitutional bodies should respond to the issue without delay. Democratic spirit will be hit by the delay tactics of Speakers,” he said.
