Revanna rant: My wife took Hassan to the top, not Rohini Sinduri
Revanna said in this academic year, at least 2000 English medium schools should be opened from class one to the PU level.
Hassan: Success has many fathers but failure is an orphan and that aptly sums up the clamour in Hassan for taking credit a day after the SSCL results came out and the district, the fiefdom of the Deve Gowda family, topped in the pass percentage dislodging usual winners like Dakshina Kannada.
Leading the charge for Hassan was the irrepressible PWD Minister H.D. Revanna who not only tom-tommed the work done by his wife Bhavani, a Zilla Panchayat member but also questioned the contributions of the previous Hassan Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sinduri virtually reducing her role to nil.
Rohini had reportedly done a lot to improve students' performance by testing the proficiency of teachers, writing to school principals on the need to improve the results and also ensuring that weak students caught up with their brighter counterparts which seems to have finally paid off.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, Revanna waxed eloquent on how Bhavani's concern for students had made her hold review meetings with officials on ways to improve the SSLC pass percentage. He was all praise for his wife for making Block Education Officers (BEOs) conduct special classes for students. "What has Rohini done to improve the SSLC pass percentage? How many meetings did she hold?" wondered the minister while asking the IAS officer to come up with figures on the meetings she held during her stint as Hassan DC. He did not forget to pat his brother and Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy too explaining how he had allocated Rs 1,600 crore for educational facilities.
The minister also gave some of the credit for the good work to teachers and students saying 86 high schools in the district have achieved cent per cent pass which was a result of their hard work.
Supporting the establishment of English medium schools, Revanna said in this academic year, at least 2000 English medium schools should be opened from class one to the PU level.
