BRS, Congress leaders clash at paddy purchasing centre

Warangal: Tension prevailed as leaders of the BRS and Congress came to blows and raised slogans against each other at a paddy purchase centre in Durshed of Karimnagar Rural mandal on Tuesday.

For the past few days, Karimnagar Assembly segment incharge Rohith Rao, the grandson of Congress former minister Satyanarayana Rao, was leading the movement against the state government, in support of farmers with regard to the lack of tarpaulins to protect paddy at the centres against unseasonal rain.

On Tuedsay, civil supplies minister Gangula Kamalakar visited a procurement centre at Durshed which was affected by the recent heavy rainfall. At around the same time, Rohith Rao and his associates went to the centre carrying party flags and tried to prevent the minister from entering the village and submitted a representation to him minister seeking immediate help to the farmers.

BRS leaders accompanying got into an argument with Rohith Rao and raised slogans against the Congress which led to counter-sloganeering against the ruling party. This led to a minor scuffle and police who were present at the spot intervened and brought the situation under control.
