Bengaluru: The work on the missing link between Sampige and Majestic Metro line has picked up speed and track laying work will end anytime soon. The BMRCL said that the line will be fully functional in 2-3 months.

Meanwhile, Kaveri Tunnel Boring Machine which is approaching from Chickpet to Majestic might see a breakthrough anytime now as it has a short distance to complete.

On April 19, Godavari Tunnel Boring Machine achieved its breakthrough at Majestic. With this, the entire north line on the north-south corridor will be complete. Now it is a matter of setting up the connectivity between the two stations and the stretch will become fully functional. Once completed, commuters from the east-west corridor can travel to any destination on the North line, which is from Sampige Road to Nagasandra, without any hindrance.  Mr Vasanth Rao, spokesperson, BMRCL, said, “Now, we have a good frequency of BMTC feeder buses running between Majestic and Sampige and clearly it has helped the commuters. The entire stretch should be open in a matter of three months which will open the connectivity till Majestic to Nagasandra.”

On the south line, tunneling is still not over and it has been the most challenging stretch as Kaveri TBM is still experiencing 90 percent of hard rock and progressing very slowly. It has completed 727.5 metre of the 747-metre stretch, while Krishna has completed 571.5 metre of 747 metre. Krishna is following Kaveri and is 254 metre away from breakthrough. Both the tunnels are around 750 metres.
