New mother, infant dead: Families protest outside Royapuram Hospital
She delivered a baby boy after a caesarian operation on May 30 and was said to be stable.
Chennai: The family of a woman who was admitted for delivery in RSRM Hospital in Royapuram who died, staged a protest in front of the hospital, on Thursday night, alleging that negligence of doctors claimed her life.
The deceased, Ishrath (21) of Mottai Thottam in Washermenpet was admitted to RSRM hospital on May 28 by her husband Mohammed Yasin (26). She delivered a baby boy after a caesarian operation on May 30 and was said to be stable.
“However, on Thursday morning, Ishrath complained of fever and suffered a seizure at around 9.30 pm. She was then admitted to ICU ward,” police sources said. Unresponsive to the treatment, she died around 2 am.
Meanwhile, her family and relatives who were present at the hospital alleged that doctors had failed to give her the timely attention and delayed treatment. They also staged a protest before the hospital, which forced the Royapuram police to deploy around 20 police personnel to prevent untoward incidents. Although high tension prevailed near the hospital for a while, the police pacified the relatives before sending the deceased body to Stanley government hospital for autopsy. The body has been handed over to the family.
In another incident, relatives of Soniya (24) who was admitted to the RSRM hospital staged a protest after her baby died at the hospital. “She suffered labour pain on Friday after which unexpected complication arose. Due to the labour pain, caesarian could not be done. The baby born dead,” the doctors said.
