Tamil Nadu: Plan to integrate dairy management

The work to construct the building has been entrusted to the NDDB on turn key basis and it is expected to be completed by this year-end.

Chennai: The State government has launched the Integrated Dairy Management System (IDMS) to integrate the activities of village level milk producers cooperative societies and district cooperative milk producers union through computerised networking systems at a cost of Rs 46.55 crore.

 “This project would improve the operational efficiency and ensure timely delivery of service to milk producers, consumers and suppliers and the project is expected to be completed by this September,” Minister for Milk and Dairy Development Rajendra Balaji has said on Friday. The policy note tabled by the Minister in the Assembly stated that a 20,000 litres per day capacity ice cream plant will be established in Madurai dairy complex at a cost of Rs. 40 crore. This plant can be expanded upto 30,000 LPD. The work to construct the building has been entrusted to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on turn key basis and it is expected to be completed by this year-end.

 Also, the Madurai dairy will have new ultra high temperature flavoured milk plant by January 2019. The Minister announced a slew of schemes including a new dairy for Virudhunagar district at a cost of Rs. 10 crore and an ice cream packing machine for Ambattur dairy at a cost of Rs. 5 crore.
