After five-day dip, Covid cases rise to 11,303 in AP; death toll 104

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a rise in new Coronavirus infections with 11,303 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, compared to 7,943 instances registered on Monday.

The state had been recording a gradual decline in daily Covid-19 cases in
the last few days. While it reported 18,285 infections on May 26, the
numbers had been 16,167 on May 27; 14,429 on May 28; 13,756 on May 29 and 13,400 on May 30. The cases fell steeply to 7,943 on May 31, when 83,461
samples were tested.

AP health authorities reported on Tuesday that out of 93,704 samples tested
during the last 24 hours, 11,303 persons have been found infected with
Coronavirus. With this, total 1,93,50,008 samples have been tested so far in
the state. 17,04,388 of them have been found infected with the virus. Of
them, 15,46,617 have recovered while 1,46,737 are under treatment.

On the day, East Godavari reported the highest of 2,477 Covid-19 cases,
followed by 1,536 in Chittoor, 1,116 in West Godavari, 985 in Visakhapatnam,
953 in Anantapur, 935 in Prakasam, 693 in Srikakulam, 686 in Guntur, 647 in
Krishna, 444 in Nellore, 323 in Kadapa, 286 in Kurnool and 222 in
Visakhapatnam.

East Godavari continues to be the worst-hit with highest number of 30,267
total active cases, followed by 19,184 in Prakasam, 17,459 in Chittoor,
12,197 in Nellore, 12,134 in Visakhapatnam, 11,481 in West Godavari, 9,981
in Krishna, 8,874 in Guntur, 8,014 in Srikakulam, 4,873 in Vizianagaram,
4,316 in Kadapa, 4,244 in Kurnool and 3,713 in Anantapur.
With regard to daily deaths, West Godavari reported 20, followed by 14 in
Chittoor, nine each in Anantapur and Guntur, eight in East Godavari, seven
in Visakhapatnam, six each in Krishna, Kurnool, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram;
five in Kadapa, four each in Nellore and Prakasam, with total deaths being
104 during the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll has scaled up to
11,034.

State health authorities have on Tuesday discharged 18,257 persons after
recovery from various hospitals in the state.
