Anantapur: SHE teams will get activated in Tirupati and also in other parts of the region in the wake of the Chandrika incident at Tirupati in Chittoor district.

The intermediate student suffered serious injury to the backbone after the two eve teasers hit her scooter a few days ago. The incident forced the police headed by Anantapur range DIG to activate SHE teams.

Besides headquarters they plan to cover all the sensitive areas in the range.
Though, the SHE teams were formed in Tirupati earlier, they were not actively working in handling eve teasing and women assault cases at both Tirupati and Tirumala areas.

With successful experiment of the teams at Hyderabad city where many cases were busted and nabbed culprits misbehaving with women, the Rayalaseema police wanted strict implementation of the system.

For instance, the SHE team in Hyderabad nabbed even an old man for misbehaving with an eight-year-old kid at her school a few days ago after a complaint was made by the girl's parents.

“We are forming additional number of teams in Tirupati immediately and also extend the SHE team services to other parts,” Anantapur DIG K. Prabhakar Rao said.

He added awareness among the youths is needed to avoid untoward incidents. The department has planned awareness campaigns at all colleges and schools about various self-protection and legal measures, the police official said.
