Water trickles into Telangana from 14 Babli gates
The water level at Sriramsagar at present is 1046.60 ft (4.5 tmc) as against its full reservoir level of 1091 ft (90 tmc).
Nizamabad: Following Supreme Court directives, 14 gates of the Babli project at Dharmabad taluk in Nanded district of neighbouring Maharashtra were lifted on Friday, releasing water into the Godavari. Officials said that 0.031 tmc ft of water from Babli will reach the Sriramsagar project by Saturday.
SRSP GVC-1 superintending engineer Satyanarayana, executive engineer P. Rama Rao and deputy executive engineer Jagadishwer visited the Babli project on Friday when Maharashtra irrigation officials released the water in the presence of Central Water Commission EE G. Srinivas.
The water level at Sriramsagar at present is 1046.60 ft (4.5 tmc) as against its full reservoir level of 1091 ft (90 tmc). Presently, there are no inflows in the Godavari River and the project’s upstream areas (Maharashtra) – Babli, Gaikwad and Vishnupuri – have reached dead storage level.
Meanwhile, inflows to Manjeera, a tributary of Godavari, have brought water from Kandakurthi to Basar and the parched Godavari is now witnessing a slight flow of water.
Speaking to DC, SRSP EE P. Rama Rao said that the Babli project gates were opened in a phased manner and only 0.031 tmc ft of water will flow into the Godavari, he said.
