GHMC pulls down old building
The action was prompted after the resident of the house filed an FIR complaint against the zonal commissioner of the central zone.
Hyderabad: After sitting on a complaint of a dilapidated structure for over two years, the GHMC finally demolished a 100-year-old building in Sultan Bazar which was dangerously leaning on to another house. The action was prompted after the resident of the house filed an FIR complaint against the zonal commissioner of the central zone. “We lived in fear for over two years that some day this structure would crush us all. In these three years I also realized that all the promptness GHMC claims is fake and it took an FIR and media reports to prod them into action,” said Umesh Kumar, a DC reader.
But the resident has realized that the job remains half done as rubble and debris is left behind. “The building has been dismantled but the debris are is there. I will have to spend another Rs 10, 000 to clear this off.”
Vijay Gopal, the resident’s friend who filed the FIR says, “The GHMC is exploiting the ignorance of the citizens on laws. The officers get paid to do these things but they only do it when a life is lost. Citizens must approach Police stations to complain against municipalities’ negligence.” The municipality earlier said that there was a delay in demolition as a technical report on structure stability, from the JNTU was pending.
