Kochi: Rights panel seeks report from Jail DGP
The latest order came following reports that the death was caused by pneumonia resulting from an infection in an internal wound.
Kochi: State Human Rights Commission chairman Justice Antony Dominic on Monday directed the jail DGP to present the postmortem report, inquest and magisterial inquiry report on the custodial death of Rajkumar in Peerumedu sub-jail.
He had last week directed the state DGP to submit a report on the issue urgently. The latest order came following reports that the death was caused by pneumonia resulting from an infection in an internal wound.
Rajkumar’s wife M. Vijaya met Justice Antony Dominic and submitted a petition. The commission will consider it along with the case registered earlier. Justice Antony Dominic had earlier directed the DGP to take stringent action against the policemen who turn accused in criminal cases. He said that if such actions had been taken, the custody deaths would not have taken place. The commission has asked the DGP to report the action-taken against 1,129 such policemen.
In another order the other day, it had directed the DGP to charge Rs 1 lakh from the policemen and SI of Kalamassery station for assaulting a person, who visited the police station to see some friends, and pay the same to the victim.
