SALEM: Barely did the new collector for Salem district, Mr S A Raman, shifted from Vellore in the latest IAS/IPS officials transfers in Tamil Nadu, take charge here on Monday, there was flutter in the town with posters appearing near the collectorate to ‘bring back’ the popular woman IAS officer, Ms Rohini Bhajubhakare to head the district administration.
“Salem district’s (first) woman collector Rohini has been an efficient and honest official, caring for the people; Rohini should be reinstated as Salem collector,” screamed a poster, put up surprisingly by the All India Hindu Mahasabha. Dr Rohini in the reshuffle was shifted to Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts College in Chennai.
Dr Rohini was a popular collector here, pro-active in her approach and very citizens-friendly as she would stop her car en route to office if she saw any person in distress and arrange to help them on the spot. She had assumed as Salem district’s first woman collector on August 28, 2017 and within a short period she won the affection of the people. Salem got several new projects too.
Meanwhile, Mr T Senthilkumar, on promotion as IG, took charge as the new Salem police commissioner here on Monday in place of Mr K Shankar, who has been transferred to Chennai as IG, CB-CID.
