Thrissur: Over 1,000 flood-hit seek more relief
In view of the rush, more counters for receiving the applications were opened, but even after 5.30 p.m.
Thrissur: More than a thousand applicants turned out at Thrissur Collectorate on Monday morning to submit appeals against the ‘inadequate’ flood relief they received for losses suffered in the deluge last year.
However, the officials told the applicants that they could not receive any of their applications unless government issued an order extending the deadline as the deadline for submitting applications had ended on Sunday.
For the past one week, the Collectorate here had been witnessing unprecedented rush of the applicants from all the taluks in the district to submit their appeals as per the order issued by the state government.
In view of the rush, more counters for receiving the applications were opened, but even after 5.30 p.m. there were several hundreds of applicants waiting in the queue every day to submit applications.
Collectorate officials said that almost all the beneficiaries who got Rs 10,000 aid had filed appeals and a panel of engineers and other officials would be constituted to inspect the houses of the applicants seeking further aid.
