Ex-jailors of Cherlapalli Central Prison to plant saplings
Prison superintendent K. Venkateswar Reddy urged them plant at least one sapling and take care of it.
Hyderabad: The prisons’ department which has completed planting 1 lakh saplings under Haritha Haram is concentrating on motivating retired employees and former prisoners to join the exercise in their native places.
On Monday, officials from the Cherlapalli Central Prison invited retired officials like former DIG A.G. Sainath Reddy, ex-superintendents Srinivasa Reddy, Babu Rao, former deputy superintendents C. Srinivasulu Reddy, Joseph, Muthyam Reddy and others to the programme. Prison superintendent K. Venkateswar Reddy urged them plant at least one sapling and take care of it.
Prisons’ DG V.K. Singh told this newspaper that the department would invite all former prisoners to involve them in the plantation programme. “We will supply saplings and they will plant them at their native places, especially at schools and government offices. So far we have planted more than one lakh plants in the state’s jails,” he said.
