Narsipatnam police seize 1,620 kg ganja worth Rs 1.5 crore

The police said that the smugglers have procured the ganja from Chintapalle region to transport East Godavari district.

Visakhapatnam: In a major haul, Narsipatnam town police seized 1,620 kg dry ganja worth Rs 1.5 crore. 

Acting on a tip-off, sleuths arrested five smugglers, who were transporting the contraband in a truck near Ayyanna Colony in Narsipatnam on Monday night. 

The arrested were identified as a former Sarpanch Pujari Babu Rao from Gumma Revulu,32, Konathala Sathibabu, 25, Vanthala Bondhu,25, Subhum Praveen Patil, a native of  Nagpur in Maharashtra and Kuppisetti Munemma from Warangal. 

However, three more accused Akthar, Pujari Jagatroy, and Durga Rao fled the spot. Narsipatnam town inspector S. Simhadri Naidu said the gang has packed the ganja in gunny bags and covered them with husk load in the truck. The police said that the smugglers have procured the ganja from Chintapalle region to transport East Godavari district.
