Hyderabad: City landmark Cyber Towers shows signs of wear and tear
Cyber Towers had emerged as the icon of growing Hyderabad and has found place next to historical sites such as Charminar.
Hyderabad: The icon of new Hyderabad, Cyber Towers, which is synonymous to Hitec city, has fragments of its orange tiles removed. Just around two decades into construction, the grey patches are now visible to the commuters of Hitech City.
Cyber Towers had emerged as the icon of growing Hyderabad and has found place next to historical sites such as Charminar. The tower was inaugurated by the then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998.
This cylindrical 10-floor structure is one of the first fully enabled IT facility in Hyderabad at 0.6 million square feet. It was home to Microsoft, GE, Oracle and continues to house many IT and ITES companies.
A techie, Kiran R, said: “It is like a foundation stone for the entire software development here in HITEC city. I was told that some people used to come for just visiting this place. Before it further deteriorates, the concerned authorities should fix the small patches.” Another techie, Syed Quershi, said, “The place is like a miniature form of India in itself as this place has people from all over India and abroad. Once the Metro completes, the place will be a treat to eyes.”
Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation owns 11 per cent share while Ace Urban Infocity (formerly known as L&T Infocity Limited) holds 89 per cent stake of this iconic building. The tower was managed by L&T until 2016.
The guards at the tower said as part of yearly maintenance, the repairs will be done. When contacted Ace Urban Infocity about the maintenance, they were not immediately available to comment.
