Japanese envoy visits Coimbatore ‘padman’
The meeting took place at Jayaashree Industries, the unit where sanitary napkins are manufactured.
COIMBATORE: It is raining visitors from overseas for the Coimbatore-based Padma Awardee Arunachalam Muruganantham, who innovated in making affordable sanitary napkins.
Following the recent visit of the cricketing legend Dwayne Bravo, ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu and his wife Patricia Hiramatsu, travelled all the way to the textile city to meet the social entrepreneur.
The meeting took place at Jayaashree Industries, the unit where sanitary napkins are manufactured using low-cost sanitary pad-making machine, an innovation of the Arunachalam Muruganantham.
During the visit to the unit located in KNG Pudur Road. Somayampalayam here, Kenji Hiramatsu credited the efforts of Muruganantham to make sanitary napkins affordable for women. “Muruganantham and his invention is very famous in Japan and he has a lot of young fans in my country,” Kenji Hiramatsu said.
“His Excellency learnt and made a pad himself in ten minutes and said this affordable invention can make a lot of difference to the world.”
Muruganantham said. During his visit, Kenji Hiramatsu invited the Padma Shri Award winner to visit Japan.
