Karnataka for talks on Mahadayi
State government will be writing to the Prime Minister and the Goa and Maharashtra Chief Ministers to hold a meeting.
Bengaluru: Enthused by the Mahadayi Tribunal’s suggestion asking three riparian states – Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra-to resolve the Mahadayi issue through talks outside the Tribunal purview, the state government will be writing to the Prime Minister and the Goa and Maharashtra Chief Ministers to hold a meeting.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, CM Siddaramaiah said the tribunal suggestion was welcome and Karnataka had always favoured talks outside the tribunal’s purview. “The tribunal has suggested that talks be held with or without third party intervention. The counsel for Goa, Mr Nadakarni, has said that he would be advising his CM, while the Maharasthra counsel also said the same. The state is ready to resolve the issue through talks,” he said.
Mr Siddaramaiah said that he would be writing to the Prime Minister to convene a meeting. In case Prime Minister convenes a meeting, he would go to Delhi. Otherwise, he would invite Goa and Maharashtra chief ministers to Bengaluru itself.
