SRINAGAR: A Jammu and Kashmir policeman was killed and three others were wounded in a militant ambush in Srinagar’s Panthachoak area on late Friday evening. The slain cop has been identified as Krishna Lal, a head-constable. The injured including the driver of the police bus are being treated at Srinagar’s 92-Base Army Hospital. The doctors said the condition of one of them is very critical.
The policemen belonging to the armed wing of the J&K police were returning to their base at Zewan on the outskirts of Srinagar when militants fired indiscriminately from AK 47 rifles at their vehicle. There were eight police men on board. “They rushed to the spot, helped the injured, offered them water and informed the nearest police station,” said a senior police officer.
