Hyderabad: The TS Wakf Board has made arrangements for the smooth conduct of Id-uz-Zuha prayers at various Idgahs and masjids in the state on Saturday.

In Hyderabad, arrangements have been made at Idgah Mir Alam, Old Idgah Madannapet, the Macca Masjid, Shahi Masjid Bagh-e-Aam, and all other idgahs and masjids.

The TSRTC will be running special buses from different places of the city to Idgah Mir Alam.

Id-uz-Zuha, is celebrated on the 10th day of Zilhaj, the 12th month of the Hijri calendar. It is a celebration of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to even sacrifice his son Ismail on Allah’s command and Prophet Ismail’s willingness to bow down to God’s command with patience.

“Just as Prophet Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, Allah sent the Angel Jibrail to replace Prophet Ismail with a ram. This was the ultimate test of their devotion and faith in Allah. We celebrate their spirit of sacrifice, their faith and their devotion,” said Maulana Hafiz Mohammed Rizwan Qureshi, Khateeb, Macca Masjid.

The sacrificial animal is divided into three parts: one part is distributed to the poor and the needy, another to relatives, friends and acquaintances and the remaining part is retained by the family.

Friday witnessed a huge rush in markets in the city with people rushing to buy new clothes and accessories for the festival. Traditional clothes are the more sought-after.

“Since the festival is associated with sacrifice, people generally spend more on sacrificial animals,” said Nayeemuddin, a businessman.
