Prima facie, the investigators suspect that the persons involved in the offence could be experienced violators who, in the past, might have been held for similar offences in other areas, so they're trying to match the photographs recovered from the CCTV footage installed in the vicinity of the crime scene with the photographs of such offenders.

Hyderabad: The Market police went into overdrive after receiving information that a woman’s handbag was snatched while she was boarding a bus near the Secunderabad railway station on Sunday.

The incident reportedly took place at the 24B bus stop on the busy station road.

A woman who boarded a bus with some baggage could not see her handbag and assumed that somebody had snatched it. She immediately raised an alarm. Passersby immediately put up the information on social media, also stating that the bag containing cash, a mobile phone, and some documents.

The Market police under whose jurisdiction the area comes were also alerted and they pressed into special teams into action. They conducted a thorough inquiry and came to the conclusion that the bag was misplaced and not snatched.

When contacted, an official of the Market police station said: “It was a rumour that the bag was snatched. The woman had kept her bag on some other baggage and misplaced it while boarding the bus. No case was registered.”

The bag was not found. It was later surmised that someone may have picked it up.

The police has cracked down on chain-snatching in a big way. They have used technology to nab chain-snatchers. vastly bringing down the number of cases.

Chain-snatching was once so rampant that the police had opened fire in one instance in an attempt to catch a chain snatcher.
