Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department in its first-ever weather forecast for a festival on Sunday warned of heavy rain during Monday’s Ganesha Chaturthi. The rain will be caused by a cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
The IMD said 75 per cent of the state will receive widespread rains and organisers of pandals and the public must be careful while celebrating the festival especially with regard to the stability of the structures and safety of electrical extensions and fittings at the place of idol.
It said isolated places in the northern and eastern parts of the state could get heavy rain, 7 cm to 11 cm, per day or very heavy rain, between 12 cm and 20 cm.
The IMD asked people to check the alerts of the GHMC.
