Tamilisai Soundararajan is new Governor of Telangana
Bandaru Dattatreya goes to Rajasthan.
Hyderabad: Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundarajan is Telangana’s new Governor. She replaces E.S.L. Narasimhan who served more than nine years of the erstwhile combined Andhra Pradesh and then as the common Governor of the two states after bifurcation.
Bandaru Dattatreya, senior Telangana state BJP leader is the new Himachal Pradesh Governor. Dattatreya is a former Union minister and replaces Governor Kalraj Mishra, who was transferred to Rajasthan. Governors were also changed in Kerala and Maharashtra.
Tamilisai, a doctor by profession, was in the TN BJP unit in various capacities starting from the South Chennai district medical wing secretary in 1999. She is the daughter of Congress leader Kumari Ananthan and the niece of Congress MP H. Vasanthakumar.
Despite not having an RSS background, Tamili-sai was a BJP star campaigner in 2014, leading to her appointment as BJP chief in August after the parliamentary poll. She has unsuccessfully contested two Assembly elections and two parliamentary elections. She lost to DMK candidate Kanimozhi in Thoothukudi in the recent Lok Sabha election.
“That the BJP recognises hard work has been proven again by Prime Minister Modi and party President Amit Shah," Tamilsai told reporters in Chennai.
