Andhra Pradesh staff begin to shift to Secretariat in Amaravati

From October 3, AP state administration will function from its own land.

Hyderabad: Seemandhra employees saw their decades old bond with Hyderabad Secretariat ending on Saturday.

From October 3, AP state administration will function from its own land. After state bifurcation on June 2, 2014, till Saturday, AP administration had functioned from the Hyderabad secretariat.

All the secretariat departments were busy with shifting activity and administration came to a standstill. After completing shifting of computers and other material the secretariat employees went on special leave from 27th September.

State government has asked all employees to report at temporary secretariat at Velagapudi in AP new capital city Amaravati region. Officials said that to put the administration back on track it will take at least two weeks’ time.

Majority of the employees and high level officers are shifting to capital region leaving their families in Hyderabad. They plan to come to Hyderabad every Friday night and return to the new capital on Monday.

The state government is implementing 5-day week for its employees shifting from Hyderabad to Amaravati. About 2000 employees are there in all secretariat departments. Some are working since past three decades and some have been around for two decades.

On the last working day on Saturday Andhra Pradesh secretariat sported a holiday look and all the departments appeared deserted.
