Bengaluru: 28-year-old Blue Whale victim pulled off Windsor bridge
The victim had come to the city over a year ago and was preparing for the entrance exam for MBA.
Bengaluru: In a case of an attempted suicide suspected to be over the notorious online Blue Whale challenge, a 28-year-old MBA aspirant was rescued by High Grounds police on Sunday, who was about to jump from a bridge near ITC Windsor Manor in the city.
The victim, Ajay Kumar, a native of Madhubani district in Bihar, was suspected to be playing Blue Whale challenge and was to kill himself to complete the level 50 of the game. Though the police have not confirmed the attempted suicide due to the Blue Whale challenge, the characteristics of injury marks on the victim’s hands, a few of which were fresh wounds, hint at the same.
The victim had come to the city over a year ago and was preparing for the entrance exam for MBA. “Though he hasn’t spoken anything about the reason which drove him to take the extreme step, he told us that he was being mentally tortured. We have taken him to Nimhans for treatment,” the police said.
“Around 3.30 pm when somebody informed us about a man trying to commit suicide. When we rushed to the spot, he was standing on the edge of the bridge and was about to jump. Two police officers approached him from the front and kept him busy with pleas to abort his decision, while the other two caught him from behind.”
Commenting on the Blue Whale challenge angle, the police said that they weren’t sure since whether the victim was playing the online game and they had no idea about the levels he had completed.
“Prima facie it appears that he had completed a few levels of the deadly game and wanted to back off. And the curator of the game was mentally harassing him to continue, following which he decided to end his life,” the police said.
Meanwhile, the police have informed the victim’s family about the incident and his father is said to be on way to Bengaluru. A case has been registered at the High Grounds police station.
