Hyderabad: A gang of five, four men wearing masks and one woman in a burka, entered a house located a few metres away from Trimulgherry Traffic Police station on Monday and taped the mouths of two women there shut before robbing the place and decamping with gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs 1 lakh.

According to police, the gang barged into the independent house where two women, Shamsunnisa, 35, and Iqbal Begam, 70, were living, at 11 am on Monday.  “They entered the place and while two men held the women’s, the other two taped their mouths shut and ransacked the house. They left with 45 tolas of silver and three tolas of gold,” said assistant commissioner of police Begumpet S. Ranga Rao.

The official said that the group did not carry any zip-ties and did not seem to come prepared for the offence.

Once the gang left, the duo raised an alarm and local people called police, following which the Clues team and local police arrived, said inspector of Trimulgherry police station K. Ravi Kumar.

Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar visited the place along with other officials.

“We have gathered some clues and are investigating the case,” Mr. Ranga Rao said.
