No watchdog in India to monitor vials

Hyderabad: Containment policy means destroying from all facilities, strains of wild polio virus and those which pose a threat for recurring. The WHO has been insisting on the containment for the polio virus.

The WHO has been struggling with the officials at various levels to have the National Authority of Containment established, which will then have to strictly monitor all the establishments. The NAC is in the formative stage at the ministry of health and family welfare. In 2018, 12 polio cases have been reported from borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan because of which vigil in India is rigorous. The switch is now to inactivated vaccine and the production units are being asked to do away with manufacturing of oral polio vaccine.
