Tamil Nadu CM opens flyover in Gandhipuram
Aimed at decongesting traffic in Gandhipuram area of the city, government of Tamil Nadu sanctioned construction of the two-level flyover.
Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday declared open the first level of a newly constructed flyover along Dr. Nanjappa Road in the city.
This is part of a prestigious two-level Rs 195 crore flyover project , the stretch located in the heart of Coimbatore, passes through the Central (town) bus stand and Express bus stand, besides forming a major arterial connectivity in the heart of the textile city.
Aimed at decongesting traffic in Gandhipuram area of the city, government of Tamil Nadu sanctioned construction of the two-level flyover. First level of the flyover starts near VOC park on Dr Nanjappa Road and ends near Textool bridge on Sathy road here.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “the AIADMK government is doing all that it can for the welfare of people of the state. The ruling government has sanctioned construction of flyovers connecting Ukkadam bus stand and Athipalayam and construction work will begin soon.”
The first level of the new flyover that was dedicated to public on Wednesday measures 1.75-kms in length and comprises 54 spans having two-lane carriage way width of 7.50-meters on either sides and centre median of 0.60-meters. The flyover has been completed at a cost of Rs 120 crore, using 4,130-metric tonnes of steel and 14,750-metric tonnes of cement. It is all set to facilitate hassle-free traffic in the centre of the city.
