Hyderabad: Don't demolish shrines, says Wakf Board
Saleem said it was better to wait till after the elections before taking a decision on the issue as the model code of conduct was in place.
Hyderabad: Wakf Board chairman Mohd Saleem urged officials working on the six-laning of the Aramgarh-Shamshabad section of NH 44 between Hyderabad and Bengaluru not to demolish religious structures. A masjid, a chilla and two graveyards will be affected by the work.
Mr Saleem was speaking at a meeting with officials of the National Highway Authority of India, GHMC, HMDA, revenue and police at the the Wakf Board here. The acquisition of Wakf land for the national highway near Shamshabad came up for discussion.
Mr Saleem directed all officers to refrain from damaging religious property belonging to the Wakf board, and stop ongoing works till a final decision is taken. He said the matter was very sensitive and asked officials to prepare a detailed report listing out the structures which will be affected by the project.
