Kozhikode: The much-awaited road repair work on the Koyilandy-Perambra stretch has started after the delay caused by tendering and the digging of the road by the Kerala Water Authority.

The road is being developed with increased width on both sides and proper drainage facility.  "Rs 14 crore has been set apart for the 14-km Koyilandy-Anjaampeedika stretch. The remaining Anjaampeedika-Perambra stretch is tendered to another contractor," said Koyilandy municipality chairman K. Sathyan.

The road widening is on and local- level committees have been formed to settle land disputes by people residing on the roadsides. The potholes are being filled with quarry waste to make the road motorable soon.

"Two months back, none had the courage to travel on the route due to huge 'craters' at several spots," said C. Ramachandran, a shopkeeper at Darshana Mukku. The first tender process was aborted for technical reasons and the second tender was won by the present contractor. In-between, the KWA dug the road from Muthambi to Peruvatur to lay pipeline for the JICA-aided drinking water project, making the road muddy.
