Chikkamagaluru gets medical college
The minister said the medical institute could take off from the next academic year.
Chikkamagaluru: The long-pending demand of the people of Chikkamagaluru for a medical college could become a reality soon with district in-charge and Kannada and culture minister C.T. Ravi revealing here on Friday that both the state and Union governments had approved the proposal.
Addressing the Kannada Rajoystava function in Chikkamagaluru, the minister said the medical institute could take off from the next academic year and the government would construct a building for it at a cost of Rs 325 crore. Also, the existing government hospital would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 170 crore, giving patients access to all types of treatment except for cancer, in the district, he added.
Mr Ravi, who revealed the department of higher education had sanctioned Rs 58 crore for construction of an engineering college in Chikkamagaluru, also announced the government would hold a Chikkamagaluru Zilla Utsav by February, 2020 and give a facelift to the Kuvempu Kalamandir.
He recalled that Rs 81.12 crore had been released to help rebuild the lives of flood-hit people in the district and said Rs 16. 22 crore had been disbursed so far among them.
The minister said that people were being relocated from areas in Mudigere taluk, which had suffered landslides and assessment of crop damage in the recent heavy rainfall was underway in the district.
