THANJAVUR: In a novel protest to highlight leakage of rain water through the roof of a state government-run bus, members of the CPI(M) placed thatched leaves on the roof of the bus at Innambur near Kumbakonam on Friday.
A state transport corporation bus plying on route number six from Kumbakonam to Thirupurambiyam has outlived its utility and due to holes on its roof rain water leaked inside drenching not only passengers but also the poor driver and conductor.
When the bus came to Innambur near Kumbakonam on Friday, CPI(M) office-bearers Dakshinamurthy, Sinnai Pandiyand, Selvaraj and Nagarajan climbed up the bus and put on it thatches.
On receiving information, Nagalakshmi, Inspector of Swamimalai police station and Kamaraj, branch manager of the state transport corporation, rushed to the spot and assured the members that a new bus will be operated in that route from November 17. Following this assurance, the agitation was withdrawn. However, traffic was affected for an hour on Kumbakonam-Thirupurambiyam road, sources added.
