Medical council chairman to appear before Madras High Court
The judge said the petitioner who is a doctor, is found to be indulging in doing sex selection using pre-natal diagnostic technics.
Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the chairman of Tamil Nadu Medical Council to appear before the court on December 2 and explain as to whether steps are being taken against doctors violating the orders passed by the medical council, by which they have been suspended from practicing medicine. Justice N.Kirubakaran gave the directive after it was brought to his notice that in spite of orders passed by the medical council, the doctors, who had been suspended are merrily practicing in various parts of the country.
The judge posted to December 2, further hearing of the petition filed by Dr K.Ramachandran, which sought to quash the order of the TN Medical Council dated May 24, 2016, suspending him from practicing medicine till the disposal of the criminal case registered under the provisions of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act and Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, pending before the District Munsif-cum-Judicial Magistrate, Neyveli.
The judge said the petitioner who is a doctor, is found to be indulging in doing sex selection using pre-natal diagnostic technics, which is prohibited under section 23 (2) of the PCPNDT (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act. He was suspended by the Tamil Nadu Medical Council by an order dated February 17, 2016. The said order was challenged before this court and subsequently by virtue of the order passed by this court on remand, the present order dated May 24 has been passed, the judge added.
