Andhra Pradesh: Applicants seek more info on Housing For All
Apparently it is the best housing scheme for the poor and middle-class in urban areas.
Khammam: It’s a classic example of the laxity of the administration in not generating public awareness of a housing scheme such as Prime Minister Awas Yojana – Housing For All (Urban). Though the response to the scheme was tremendous in smaller towns like Sattupalli, Madhira, Yellandu and Manuguru, the officials concerned are not clearing the doubts of the applicants about the scheme. Apparently it is the best housing scheme for the poor and middle-class in urban areas.
Under the scheme, credit-linked subsidy will be available up to Rs 6 lakh and the Centre will bear Rs 2.31 lakh worth of the total interest. Beneficiaries of economically weaker sections (EWS) and low income groups seeking housing loans from banks are eligible for this. The beneficiary will have 100 square yards in the relevant town. There are other schemes for the upper middle class who did not have house sites and they will be given from Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh in the middle-income groups one and two.
In MIG-1, an interest subsidy will be 4 per cent up to Rs 9 lakh. While in MIG-2, interest subsidy will be 3 per cent up to Rs 12 lakh. About 3,200 people have submitted their applications in Yellandu and the figure is 3,180 in Manuguru. Madhira stood first with 3,232 applications, 2,870 applications in Paloncha and 2,652 in Sattupalli.
The applications were accepted by the officials of the Central government. No applicant was given any receipt for it. The applicants had various doubts, like whether the government would give loan assistance to all and when would the loans be sanctioned. There is an opinion among the beneficiaries that the state government should respond to applicants by explaining about it.
