Government extends salary of Telangana priests and staff working in temples

From next month, the salaries will be credited directly in the bank accounts of priests and temple staff.

The Endowments department has started collecting details from all temples to find the exact number of priests and temples eligible for government salaries.

Hyderabad: The government set a record by becoming the first in the country to extend salaries to priests and staff working in temples through the treasuries department on par with government employees. 

Endowments minister A. Indrakaran Red-dy handed over salary cheques for November to priests to launch the initiative on Friday.

From next month, the salaries will be credited directly in the bank accounts of priests and temple staff.

Mr Reddy said there was a long pending demand for payment of salaries through treasuries department.

“Priests went on str-ike several times during Congress and TD regimes but they did not respond. After the formation of Telanga-na state, Chief Minis-ter K. Chandrasekhar Rao has promised to meet their demand. As promised, the CM sanctioned funds,  he said.
