VIJAYAWADA: The AP police has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the alleged attack on opposition leader N. Chandrababu Naidu in the Amravati capital region.

The police refuted allegations of the involvement of policemen in the alleged attack on the bus in which Mr Naidu was travelling. South Coastal Zone, IG, Vinit Brijlal, said that the police arrested two persons who hurled footwear and pelted a small stosne on the bus during Mr Naidu’s tour on November 28.

He claimed that the bus windscreen was cracked before the tour began, and not due to stone-pelting. He refuted allegations of Telugu Desam leaders about the police throwing lathis (truncheons) on the bus.

Mr Brijlal stated that the police department constituted an SIT, with the additional SP, for further investigation into the alleged attack on the bus in which Mr Naidu was travelling.

Addressing a press meet at Guntur on Sunday, he said the SIT will investigate the negligence/delinquency of any police officer and any security lapses. He said that SIT would submit its report within a week.

Inspector general Mr Brijlal said that the police made all arrangements according to the norms for the former Chief Minister’s tour in the capital region and deployed 207 police personnel, including police officials, to avoid untoward incidents.
