Curvy flyover from Kanuru to Nidamanuru
Development works in progress; city to be traffic snarl-free soon.
Vijayawada: The district administration has proposed a curvy flyover from Kanuru to Nidamanuru, via Benz circle. The proposals have been sent to Special Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha. Keeping in view the burgeoning traffic at Benz Circle towards Bandar and Eluru roads, district collector B. Lakshmikantham deployed a team to carry out a study, to address the problem. In fact, the collector has proposed to extend the flyover from Benz Circle to Nidamanaru, as it was earlier decided upto Ramesh Hospitals only.
"We have sent proposals related to the extension of Benz Circle-Ramesh Hospitals flyover upto Nidamanuru, and also another proposal for Kanuru-Benz Circle flyover, which will take a curvy shape near Benz Circle," explained the district collector. In order to de-congest the traffic in the 3-km stretch from Kaniuru side to Benz Circle, and from there to Ramavarappadu Ring, the study carried out by a team of road transport experts suggested some more remedial measures, the collector said.
The necessity of these two flyovers caused Gammon India's failure in executing the bypass contract, which resulted in frequent traffic snarls, from Benz Circle to Ramavarappadu Ring on a daily basis. It is learnt that the new tender schedule will be released within four months. It is indicated that the execution of new tender process would take place only after 9 months. Hence, the citizens of Vijayawada are to be prepared for this traffic jams for one-and-a-half years more.
The Union government expressed displeasure in August, last year, over Gammon's delay in executing the Vijayawada-Gudugolanu project. It has directed the NHAI authorities to send a detailed report over the same. In fact, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also expressed his dissatisfaction over the delay of Gammon's in executing the project and at the same time, said he was helpless as the Union government has to take a call on the issue. The observations of Mr. Naidu were communicated to the Union government, which sought a complete picture of the project from NHAI.
Despite completion of land acquisition, Gammon did not begin works on road connecting Amaravati and two Godavari districts remained silent for the last five years when it was awarded the contract on BOT mode. The road starts at Kaza in Guntur district and connect NH-16 and NH-65, via Krishna river.
