GHMC waits for state nod on Shishu Aadhaar

Under the project, newborn babies will be issued Aadhaar cards and birth defect registration if needed at hospital level free of cost.

Hyderabad:The Greater Hyderabad the Municipal Corporation is waiting for the government orders to implement the Telangana Shishu Aadhaar project as part of its new e-Governance initiative.

The GHMC has proposed the project in which newborn babies will be issued Aadhaar cards, birth certificates and birth defect registration if needed at hospital level free of cost. It has written to the state government asking for approval to start the project. 

The GHMC has proposed to initially implement the project in 25 identified hospitals in its limits. It held meetings with managements of private hospitals to discuss the project. Officials said a pilot project undertaken in a government maternity hospital had got a positive result. The Shishu Aadhar project will involve many departments such as the health wing of the GHMC, IT department, regional office of unique identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and others.
