Hyderabad: An absentee funeral prayer was performed and two minutes silence observed at Eidgah Ujale Shah in Saidabad to pay homage to those who died during the anti CAA-NRC protests in various parts of the country.

State organiser of the Wahdat e Islami, Moulana Naseeruddin, led the prayer. Speaking on the occasion later he said the role of Muslims in the Independence struggle was significant. They fought for more than a century to get rid of British rule. The RSS, which was founded during British rule, and their kar sevaks betrayed the freedom fighters and acted as snitches of the British. Now they are in power and asking us to prove our right of domicile. They are imposing black laws on us, the Moulana said.

Expressing dissent at actions of the government is a right guaranteed by the Constitution, he said, but the BJP government is not allowing citizens to raise their voices. People of all communities have come forward to oppose the amendments to the Citizenship Act and the government’s intention to implement a nationwide National Register of Citizens. People are agitating without hurting anyone or damaging public property, but the police has shown brutality and used excessive force against the agitators and beat them up, and some people have lost their lives.

Moulana Hussamuddin Sani Jafar Pasha of the Ameer Amarat e Millat e Islamia said, “We are not afraid of the BJP government and will resist them to get our rights.”

He said other communities of the country, by participating in the agitation, proved that the majority of the nation is secular and rejected the Act which discriminates against people on the basis of religion.

Mujahid Hashmi, secretary of the Awami Majlis e Amal said people have come forward to safeguard the Constitution and secular fabric of the nation. The government does not tolerate this unity shown by the people of different communities during the agitation and has used excessive force to quieten dissenting voices.

M. Raju, president of the Telangana Chapter of the Patriotic Democratic Movement said the BJP government is following the Godse ideology. They are against the thinking of B.R. Ambedkar, who introduced the concept of a secular India.

He said they have no sympathy towards the Dalits and are not ready to accept Dalits as Hindus.
