Hyderabad: Congress OBC leaders threw chairs at each other at a function to felicitate Congress Legislative Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday.
The confrontation was between a group loyal to Congress OBC city chairman Nuthi Srikanth Goud, and supporters of Congress’s senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao.
Two followers of Mr Goud fell on Mr Hanumantha Rao while he was felicitating Mr Vikramarka.
Mr Hanumantha Rao pushed them away, which inflamed the followers of Mr Goud.
Followers of Mr Goud are angry with Mr Hanumantha Rao, alleging that it was at his instigation that the party denied the Amberpet ticket to Mr Goud in the recent Assembly elections.
A war of words erupted between the two leaders which escalated into a physical fight between their followers as they flung chairs at each other. Mr Goud complained to the Begum Bazaar police that Mr Hanumantha Rao was accusing him of using abusive language against him.
Speaking to media persons, Mr Hanumantha Rao said, “Many people will try for tickets during the elections and we can’t blame anyone when we fail to get the tickets. This is not the way to deal with issues.”
Congress OBC chairman J. Chittaranjan Das has sacked Mr Goud from the post of chairman of the OBC Hyderabad City Congress panel.
