Waste from the nala being dumped on the road causing foul smell and narrowing of the street, posing inconvenience to the residents.

Hyderabad: Every morning, residents of First Lancer Road are greeted by the stench of dried sludge that has been scooped out of the nala and dumped on the main road.

The residents also complain of an abrupt narrowing of the carriageway due to this practice.

“It seems like there is an unholy nexus between the contractor who has been given the job and the civic officials. Every day they bring an earth-mover into the water of the nala, which dredges the plastic and garbage. Then discard the waste on the road, narrowing it down even further,” said Prof Darvish, a resident of Mehtab Manzil, Masab Tank.

He added that the waste falls right back into the nala, rendering the exercise futile.

“If the government wants to clean up the nala, they should send a truck to collect all the waste. This is just a vicious circle, where they desilt the nala and wait for it to flow back again,” the resident said.

The amount of waste fished out of the naala gives rise to an acrid stench that engulfs the entire area, making it difficult for people who live or pass by there.
