President inaugurates meditation centre
Kanha Shantivanam will now serve as the global headquarters of Heartfulness institute.
Hyderabad: Kanha Shantivanam, the largest meditation centre, was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday. It was attended by around 40,000 people who practice meditation. Kanha Shantivanam will now serve as the global headquarters of Heartfulness institute.
Marking the occasion, President Kovind planted a sapling to mark five lakh trees on the campus. The sapling was one of Diospyros candolleana or panicled ebony, an International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red-listed threatened species.
Addressing the gathering Mr Kovind said, “The practice of Sahaj Marg and Heartfulness learning will help in bringing about individual and collective transformation across the globe. It is reassuring to see that Shri Ram Chandra Mission (Heartfulness Institute) is continuously expanding its outreach for the benefit of the world community. Efforts of the mission in developing Kanha Shantivanam deserves special commendation.”
As a commemoration of 75 years of Heartfulness institute, three three-day sessions from January 28-30, February 1-3 and February 7-9 will host approximately 1.2 lakh practitioners who are taking part in mass meditation activity.
A Heartfulness Institute volunteer said the 1,400-acre campus which was once barren and rocky now has five lakh trees, many of them rare and red-listed. They have been nurtured to create a micro-climate for meditation practitioners.
