The High Court had recently asked the reason for not registering a case and the Crime Branch had sought a month to submit a report.

Kollam: Fifteen months have elapsed since Roji Roy, a second- year B.Sc nursing student of  KIMS school of nursing in Thiruvananthapuram, committed suicide by jumping from the 11th floor of the north building of KIMS hospital. But so far, not even a case for ‘abetment of suicide’ has been charged against those responsible for her death. The High Court had recently asked the reason for not registering any case and the Crime Branch had sought  a month to  submit  a report.

“The High Court had  asked the prosecution whether a case charged for abetment of suicide would not stand. Seeking a month’s time for verifying the feasibility of the case, DySP Suresh Kumar had reached the house of Roji Roy to take the statements from her relatives,”  Mr Sanjay Nallila, secretary, Roji Roy action council, told DC.

A report submitted with the Kerala State Human Rights Commission by the police assistant commissioner said  that the principal,  the class coordinator, another teacher and the students had complained against Roji Roy accusing her of ragging in the college. She was asked to give a written explanation. She allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the eleventh floor of the hospital on November 6, 2014 at 12.30 p.m. and succumbed to her injuries by 6 p.m. in the same hospital.
