Lakhs witness car festival of Koniamman temple in Coimbatore
Devotees offered a huge quantum of crystal salt, pepper to the goddess Koniamman.
Coimbatore: Several lakh devotees participated in the car festival of Koniamman temple in Coimbatore on Wednesday evening.
The annual festival of this famous Amman temple of Coimbatore which starts in the Tamil month of ‘Maasi’ reaches a climax with the car festival. The entire city wore a festive look with thousands from across Coimbatore thronging to get the glimpse of the deity in the decorated car as it wound through the important streets of the city.
Devotees offered a huge quantum of crystal salt, pepper to the goddess Koniamman. Special ‘pujas’ and ‘abishekam’ were performed to the deity before the start of the car festival. After the ‘pujas’, the flower decorated idol was mounted on the car at the auspicious time of 3 p.m.
Special ‘aradhanas’ were performed to the goddess seated in the car. Devotees drew the flower-decorated car along the four streets.
The car procession started from Raja street and culminated at the same spot rafter passing through Oppanakara street, Vysial street, and Karuppanna Gounder street.
The district administration and police along with the help of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department officials had made necessary arrangements for the devotees.
