Rishiteswari suicide case: ANU former principal held in Hyderabad
Earlier, the police chargesheeet which listed him as absconding.
Guntur: Police on Wednesday arrested G. Babu Rao, the then principal of the ANU College of Planning and Architecture in the Rishiteswari suicide case in Hyderabad and produced him before the VIth additional munsif magistrate, Guntur.
He was sent to judicial remand till March 16 and shifted to Guntur district jail.
Babu Rao’s name had initially not figured in the case, but was included about six months after the incident.
Earlier, the police chargesheeet which listed him as “absconding”. Following this, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him.
Meanwhile, defense lawyer in the Risiteshwari case, Y. Koteswara Rao demanded that Mr Babu Rao be sent to police custody for further interrogation.
Mr Rao said that he would file a revision petition in the High Court seeking registration of Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences act 7, 8, 11 and 12 against Babu Rao in the Rishiteswari case.
SFI, Guntur district, president M. Manoj and secretary Bhagavan Das welcomed the arrest.
