Autorickshaw drivers unions have urged RTA officials to hold special melas to enable auto drivers obtain non-transport license. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, Class VIII pass is mandatory for a transport licence.
Telangana Auto Drivers Union leader Sathi Reddy said the police should exempt auto drivers from punishment for driving without license until the melas are held.
Joint Transport Commissioner T. Raghunath said they have agreed to conduct special melas for auto drivers as the traffic police said auto drivers should have at least a non-transport licence.Police said enough time was given to auto drivers to obtain a non-transport licence.
