Kozhikode: nThe row over the role of CPM leaders in the murder politics of Kannur that began on Thursday with Congress leader K Sudhakaran’s comments continued on Friday with CPM central committee member EP Jayarajan coming out in support of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Addressing reporters here, Mr Jayarajan said that Sudhakaran was directly involved in the murder of Nalppady Vasu. It was Sudhakaran who snatched the gun from the gunman and fired at Vasu, Jayarajan said, adding that the Mattannur police had registered a case against Sudhakaran in the murder.

He also said that Sudhakaran was one of the accused in the conspiracy in the attempt to murder him during a train journey. The court had convicted two and the trial in the conspiracy case was yet to begin, he added.  Sudhakaran had challenged Jayarajan that he would end his political career if the latter could prove that he was carrying the bullets on his person.  K. Sudhakaran had also alleged that it was Pinarayi Vijayan who started the RSS-CPM clashes and serial killings in Kannur district. What provoked Sudhakaran was the statement of the chief minister in the legislature that Sudhakaran had fired at Nalppady Vasu with the rifle of his gunman. Sudhakaran had also alleged that at times “the chief minister is speaking like a drunkard”.
